Is HE your one and only??
Topic: 10 Commandments Series
I am starting a sermon series on the Ten Commandments.

The Ten Commandments are not quite as simple as they appear to be. In general, they forbid us from every sin we could ever do. I'm taking them one sermon at a time. Here we go...



YOU SHALL HAVE NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME.

Well. Sounds simple huh? Make GOD your one and only GOD and everything will be plain and simple. But we tend to not really think about the stuff that could be other gods. A list of these things:
*Money
*Sex
*Fame/Success
*Friends/Popularity

Let's start with money. Yeah, you gotta work. After all, clothes, food, and life necessities cost money. Pretty much ya hafta have moolah to survive in this world right? I would agree for the most part. But examine your life. Is money a god for you? You might not even know it!! If you're obsessed with working so you will be richer and richer; if you're obsessed with just looking rich or wealthy; if you've got a shoppin fedish; or if ya just feel the need to make those rich brats look poorer, you probably have money as another god.

Next item on the list. Sex. I'm not talkin about obsessions with having sex. I'm talking about members of the oppisite sex. Yeah, we all get crushes. As a teen, you probably experience your first real love. It's fantastic, isn't it?? Just make sure that, once again, you're not overly obsessed with that magical person that makes your day. And hey, not only does God want us to save ourselves for the person we marry, but ya might as well save somethin for the honeymoon.

Item number three: Fame or Success. Yes, we all want to succeed. and we've all had a dream or two about becoming famous movie stars or celebs. But mostly they're just dreams. See, in God's world, we're already famous celebs. And if we've got God in our lives, and we remember Him always, we're successful until the day we die. And then we'll go to heaven and be successful some more!! SOOO you don't need earthly fame or success, though you may get your big chance. With God, its all good.

Final item: Popularity and Friendships. This one's directed mostly to girls. Teenage time is full of backstabbing and the desire to be popluar. But when the sun sets, when the path ends, when it's all over, what really matters? Where you're goin, thats what. Hopefully you're goin with me to Heaven. But popularity. it's a big issue. we're all in cliques, whether we like it or not. Preps, punks, goths, jocks, nerds, gays, geeks, freaks, and somewhere in the middle...yeah. i know the labels. i have one too. what if there was a label for the Christians...you know, the Jesus Freaks or something. Sadly, religion is not something associated with popularity or social status. if it was, where do you think we'd be placed? what reputation would we have? or would it matter? think about it.


Well. If you're not really sure if you've got any other gods before God, or something like that, think of it like this. What is one of the last things you think of before you go to sleep?
*How much money is in your shopping fund? {dreams up new moneymakers}
*Oh my gosh, he/she is sooooooo hottttttt!!!!!!! {fantasizes about relationships}
*I wish i was famous. {imagines self winning a snazzy award
*Oh, i wonder if that new hairstyle will make me more popular or get me more friends! {imagines being most popular person in school}

Yeah, i know we all think of something along the lines of these things at one point or another. Especially the second one. But hey, we're teens! To set your priorities straight, and to get God as your main man, instead of fantasizing, dreaming, or imagining these things, why don't you pray for these people, or that you will maybe get your big chance some day?? Then thank God for all the good things you already have, all that He's given you. It's a good way to remember that He is the absolute best god anyone could and should ever have.

Whats up guys!! I'm glad you're here! I hope you're here cuz you love God and you wanna learn more about him, or you don't know God at all, but want to come to know him! If your case is the second one, please take time to email me about it!

Alrighty then...some stuff about this site. The purpose of it is to make the Bible make sense to teens. My goal is to make 100 sermons by Dec. 31st, 2006. If i accomplish that, i will start over with a new site!

This is exciting cuz the theory is that a teenager (me) is taking the Bible, studying some of its passages, and translating them into teen talk so ppl (you) can understand it, and apply it to your life.

This is my first Tripod site, but not my first blog...so i sorta know what i'm doing but not really. So comments and emails are welcome and wanted! I know i'm gonna enjoy makin this site, and i hope yall enjoy readin it! have fun and God bless you all!
